| FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. Today, FIRST sponsors 41 annual regional events all over the world leading up to an international event in April. Students have six weeks to design, build, and test a robot from a “kit of parts.” Each robot is designed to perform a predetermined task, which is announced annually. Teams partner students with professional mentors in order to teach engineering to students so that they may, one day, get a professional career. |
